Hello all 'Starship' owners!
A trustworthy acquaintance of mine is a trader in second hand Jaguar parts, based in East Grinstead. He has come by some items for the 420G, e.g. Reasonable doors, front suspension components, Interior wood.
If you'd like to talk to him, PM me and I'll pass on his details.
Check to see if you have a decent spark. Probably easiest to take the king lead out of the dizzy for this rather than to try and reach a plug lead on a plug. Hold it half an inch away from a good ground using a well insulated tool. The spark should jump.

If this is good, do you hear the pump run when you first turn on the ignition? It should run for three or four seconds. It may be worth opening the boot to listen and have someone turn the key.

If both these are good and it still won't fire, report back?

Hi

My name is Paul Walton and I'm freelance motoring journalist.

I'm trying to track down a chap by the name of John Wilkinson for a feature I'm currently writing. Apparently, he's fairly well known in Jaguar and E-type circles. Do any of you out there know him and how I can contact him?

If you can help, please email me (paul@paulwalton.co.uk) or call 07887 552682.

Many thanks

Paul

The coupe went straight through the MOT yesterday and no advisories . Not bad for a car that was originally passed on for spares and came off a low-loader at my house a couple of years ago. Well spotted Keith .

The only problem is that a rear tyre went flat at the weekend so it's running on the spare. The flat is starting to crack on the sidewall so I shan't bother with it anymore and will get a couple of new ones. My local tyre place got a couple of 215/70 15 Pirelli P4000s for the front last year but supply seems to have dried up. I want to stick with 215/70 15 and the spare is a Dunlop (I noticed when I took it out ). So perhaps I'll look at a couple of these.

Going back to the headlight thing for a moment. Sorry Archie.

Down here in the "Garden of England" night time driving is conspicuious by these "boy racer" types who will insist on driving around with either their headlights and front spotlights/fog lights on or just, perhaps more outrageous their spotlights to the front.

Obviously they also need to have their car stereo systems at full volume so they remain oblivious to other road users hurling verbal abuse in their direction.

Happy days

I've taxed on-line, a stress free process and you don't even have to find the paperwork.

I also tax at my local to the office Post Office which is located in a nearby petrol station in a small village just outside Maidstone. It's nice to pop in, give them some custom in the vane hope they will be spared the chop in the next review. Buy some petrol, some oil, teabags and biscuits and perhaps a bottle of whisky (medicinal).

It's absolutely amazing what you can buy in a petrol station these days.

I remember going to these things (obviously not this one as we lived up in Cumbria in those days)as a child with my grandad. A man would come out of his office and great us and then proceed to fill our car with lots of lovely five star petrol and then another pump for the paraffin (not for the car) and dispensing machine for the engine oil. They had a workshop on site and could look after all your vehicles requirements but that was where it stopped.

No drinks
No food
No newspapers or magazines
No nothing really

The times they are a changing!

Happy days
Nick

Happy days
Nick

I have to say that personally speaking my 51 Plate (2002) 2.5 V6 Petrol has bee one of the most reliable cars I have owned. I'm in the process of trying to find it a good home as my wife now prefers a little Toyota something. It's small and it's silver but she seems quite happy with it.

I tried giving it to my mum but she is more than happy with her Skoda something like a VW car. At this rate it will still be with me next Winter. Oh dear what a shame. If is snows anything like the last one at least I will be able to get around where no one else can!!

Happy Days
Nick
