I told you it would happen.

It's uglier than the porsche cayenne.
Next, the people carrier, followed by the tractor
If Ford want to kill the brand, PLEASE PULL THE PLUG NOW. This humiliation of a great name is too much to take. SUV's MPV's, Diesels, Tractors.lorries....
I am ashamed to own a Jaguar........

I don't think you have anything to worry about Terry, most people would know the difference between your 'Jaguar' and this 4x4 'Forduar'
I don't really know what to say about this new vehicle, if they ever make it of course, I suppose there's a big market for this type of thing, has it done the other brands any harm to make an off roader? but then, why should Jaguar 'follow the pack'? What's everybody else's thoughts on this?

Interesting one this - I agree that the pics in Auto Express show a complete dog's breakfast of a car rather than a true Jaguar.
I personally don't think something like that will ever feature in the Jaguar range. I would guess it's more realistic for the company to consider a jacked up estate, like the Audi All Road or Volvo X Country. Jaguar does not seem to be doing much to quash rumours about a 4x4 model, but I think that it would be mad to do one especially when Land Rover is technically part of the same stable. I mean, what next? A Range Rover saloon?
If Jaguar sticks to its word of focusing on nothing other than "beautiful, fast cars" there should be no place for a ugle piece of tin like this off-roader.
Having said that, Porsche's Cayenne has been a huge hit...

Sirs,
I am totally with Terry.
I hope Adam and Phil are right and it never comes to fruition.
Rowan Atkinson wrote recently that the appeal of the 4 x 4 is its ability to dominate. I agree and think that however nicely sytled or engineered they will always be brutish because that is their appeal.
I believe that Jaguar`s traditional market has been drawn by aesthetics of a somewhat higher order than their ability to look down on other drivers. Jaguar should stay well away and concentrate on what they do well. Saloons and sports cars.
Your opinionated servant

I think the ugliest guise of Jaguar was the Lynx Eventer.
It reminded me of an old reliant Scimitar and did absolutely nothing for the lines, grace and refinement of the XJS.
No wonder it remained such a rare care. I have only ever seen one and one other advertised for sale.

Hi all
Can anyone send me a pic of this . It sounds like a crock of
. If Jaguar revamped their cars like W.K.E, you may have seen a road test of a xjs which was re-engineered to modern standards on Top Gear. They also do series 3s and Top Gear said " This is how they should have been made". Think about it. A gorgeous car like the xj6 series 3 brand new with todays technology.

Here is a photo I found on the internet. Apparently there were only 67 made up until 2002.
I have only seen one close up personally.

Thanks for that jacky. I have seen the Lynx conversion,
but it was a picture of the Jag off roader that i was after.
I don't think they will build it but, you know what Ford are like.

Every time I see a Porsche Cayman, I ask myself one question: WHY?
I followed one today for a couple of miles. It was the super-dooper turbo version and it was being driven at about 40MPH.
I didn't follow it for long. One of the joys of the diesel S is overtaking poseurs in stupid cars. It was easy with the XJR, but even more fun in an oil burner.
Why do people but "performance" cars and drive them like old women?

One I'd like to add, why do manufacturers make and customers by cars that will go well over 100mph when the speed limit is 70mph?
Cars would be far better if they were smoother, had better low rev torque and were more economical at the expense of top end speed.
I may drive my jag(s) in a manner that some may consider to be "like and old woman" but I enjoy the grace, not so much pace and pleasing space that my jaguars give.
Better 20 minutes late in this world than 20 years early in the next as my uncle used to say!
I feel jaguar missed a major sales opportunity by not making an suv long ago, not an ugly monster like a BMW M5 but some thing like an xj40 or x300 with decent ground clearance, 4 wheel drive and sport estate styling. Just a damn good road car with all traditional jag qualities but a bit more room, better visibility and the ability to travel on muddy fields or snow.
Cheers

I suspect everyone will take a different view on this. Yes the speed limit in the UK is 70mph and we all stick religiously to this don’t we! But when I go to France I need to be able to raise this to 80mph in order not to be flattened by the swarms of little Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens that fly past at speeds well in excess. When I go to Germany I need to be able to go even faster on some stretches of their Motorways where (mercifully) there are no such limits.
I suspect many of us buy Jaguars certainly for the grace but lets be honest about this, pound for pound it is difficult to find much with better pace.
Nick
It is my understanding that the "crusing speed" of an XJS is between 110mph and 125mph

This appears rather slow. Try moving the stick thingy next to the ashtray up a notch from '2' to 'D'

Nikko – Come on. My comments were tongue in cheek! The crusing speed of any vehicle is largely determined by a combination of vibration versus stress and in most cases has little to do with top speed or performance.

I think that the people who design cars today were not here 30 years ago, and they grew up in a world of punk, schydzoid, and just plain distorted schizofrenia, so what they design reflects those images in their brains. I grew up in the 1950's and 1960's, when cars were made to be beautiful, with curves and art. There's no art in today's cars, only reflections of violence and brutality, hence the SUV, a steel vomit of everything that's bad today. That's why I only own and drive old Jaguar cars, because of their beauty. But my Jaguars are constantly threatened by those suv. SUV drivers like to intimidate drivers in cars, tailgating 3 inches behind someone's bumper being their weapon of choice. If there is Anti-SUV Legislation going on in Europe, then Europe is already ahead. Over here in the USA, they haven't seen the light yet. Whenever I see a rolled-over SUV on the road, I scream YEEHAWWW!, another one bites the dusta!, one less jackass on the road!. I have no sympathy for Ford and its dinosaur vehicles, Ford can disappear and very few will notice they did. They are ruining American roads with their horrible un-human-scaled TRUCKS!. Not to mention we have a government that looks the other way while this carnage goes on in our roads. But that changed a week ago, Republicans are going, going, gone....
