JWM redesign
07.03.2007 at 11:35:31

Have you noticed that JWM magazine has done a new XJ on us this month.  A slight redesign, although it basically looks and feels the same but then messed it up by going all "autotrader" on us in the classified section.

I imagine it's aimed at keeping the cover price low but it feels more like a weekly than a monthly publication with that cheapo paper.  Please don't let this creap forward into the main magazine.

On the plus side the XJS Bulletin article is great and make a welcome change from "this month we show you how to remove a metal thing using a special tool called a screwdriver"

Regards
David

I heard this had happened with the Car Mechanics mag a while back (also belongs to Kelsey). I haven't bought that for a while but apparently it uses cheap paper throughout.

This thread has been started in a serious vein, but I have removed some posts here. This bulletin is for serious comments, criticisms, suggestions and will be read by JWM staff to glean ideas and feedback. This makes it an entirely unsuitable place for irrelevant flippancy. Cheers, Archie.

That was my fault. Embarrassed Apologies to anyone offended. Smiley

Surly Kelsey would prefer constructive comments, praise, or criticism.

If we as consumers have a valid observation then the best thing is to share that. It helps everyone in the long run.

Thanks Dan.

Nick, Yes that was precisely the point I was making and the reason that I removed some 'banter' posts.

My feeling about the new style JWM is that the cheap newsprint style of the paper and print in the advertisement section, gives an unfortunate downmarket feel to the magazine. Not good.
Cheers, Archie.

I can't see that it matters, myself.  If I keep old magazines it's for the articles, not the classifieds so the quality of the paper there doesn't matter a jot.

On the other hand, I DID get annoyed when the MGOC magazine moved the classifieds into the main, glossy, heavyweight magazine rather than in a separate, lightweight section that could be disposed of later - it meant that I was storing loads of useless ads in my cupboard.
