general chit chat board. Cool
Most of the posts on here end up in general chit chat etc. The comment from the powers that be were WE cant monitor it 24 hours a day.Put in the yankeeism(sp) 24./7
Well I still think we need this.
There`s plenty of people on here who are on most of the day and night who could monitor this.
Rather than a moderator etc. who appears now and then . Roll Eyes
last night alot of PM`s were going around saying "we are breaking rules here" so better stop.
barring genuine problems with Jags (god forbid) some people on here just want the camraderie this site offers.
SO think again Please. Smiley

Roly, You are not going to get a chat room here. You have joined a Forum run by a professional publishing company, designed for Jaguar enthusiasts to exchange ideas with other enthusiasts. It is therefore about cars, and not a suitable medium for drivel.
Go with the flow here, and join a separate chat room if this does not satisfy your need. Cheers, Archie.

i am just gona add my two penneth here,

i have been on the ' net ' for more than ten years now, and have been a member of many car forums, Mondeo , Vauxhall , Renault and now Jaguar to name just a few, also many photography sites, and was even a Moderator myself for two years ,

chat rooms are not about talking ' drivel ' as it was referred to , its about real-time conversation on an any valid subject , it also saves space on the forums  , and threads from being filled with ' off topic ' comments,

i personally feel no need for a chat room , but i do advocate its benefit within a forum ,

so please do not just dismiss it as ' blurb for kids ' , it is more valuable than that , i would have thought a
"Forum run by a professional publishing company"
would have recognised this ??

I agree, most forums do indeed have a 'chat room ' or 'pub' which is supposedly for OT topics where there tends to be more latitude regarding content.
Personally, I don't use them, I have little interest or time to just witter away. That does not mean however that they do not or cannot have a place or purpose.

another two penneth here,

ive been a member of a number of 4X4 and kite surf forums over the years, all of which have chat areas. personally i dont use them, however i do feel they cut the amount of 'not needed' posts out of the more serious stuff.

i also think that if you were going to look at us as a like minded community of jag lovers, then theres somthing inherantly wrong in being told to go elsewhere for somthing you obviously feel the need for.

kind of reflects badly on the whole jag owner thing, not the first time ive noticed it either, i used to wave and be waved at ofeten by other land rover owners when out in the range rovers. waved at in a jag? by another jag driver? - not once !!!!...........they are more likley to look the other way....

yep if I dont loose my chrome strip on way down the size is unique being a majestic,If I`m not happy with it ,thenI will take it off again. Winkwhat I need is a second hand one I can take the moulded shape out of,it doesnt have to be full length. Wink

Edited:
Roly, It may just be me but I think you need to explain what you are talking about here as I can't see why a chrome strip has suddenly appeared as an apparent problem. Is this linked to an ongoing topic or a chat on another thread?

Drivel?
Witter away?
Blurb for kids?

If we keep waving at other jag owners the law of averages says that one day someone will wave back.
However, increasing the post count in favour of a chat room, will not work in the same way.
Accept the Forum as it is, it's great in its current format.

Cheers, Archie.

general chit chat board.

I thought that's what "News Gossip, and General Chat" was. No ?

IMHO, something new/additional is not required.

Actually, this is a very "chatty" group to begin with.  I say this as an observation, not a criticism. Even threads under model-specific headings don't seem to stay meaty with Jag content for very long  Cheesy

Every discussion board I belong to has a personality of its own and this is no exception.....and its a nice place to visit  Smiley

I know that mentioning Jag-Lovers won't endear me to anyone here but, in case anyone doesn't know (or remember), they had a hard time controlling their "Pub" discussions about four years ago and the end result was very ugly, ruined several friendships, and put a black cloud over the place for some time. Not saying that the same would necessarily happen here.....just food for thought.

Cheers to all

everything must evolve

or it will die

not opening your mind to possible improvement will leave a core of posters that have nothing to say over the ( how do i fix the ??/  ) and new members never say anything, just look at the current figures, i bet no more than 20% of members actually post anything , and the majority will have a post count of less than 10 for their entire time here ,

please dont get me wrong, i am not out to cause trouble, but if someone creates a PUBLIC forum , they can not run it like a dictatorship, that recently happened on a photography site i belong to , and 98% of members broke away to form a new democratically run forum , and this has nothing to do with ' rules ' , these are needed, but so is freedom of speech and the right to comment , just because we are told that its useless to request something, doesnt mean we have to and give up ( on any subject ) ,

on another note, deletion of posts , this seems unilateral at the moment, with no possibility of review, again , rules are good, and if someone is being offensive or breaking rules, then so be it, however, unpalatable comments toward a magazine is a bit petty , though i never read them,

in other ( well run ) forums, possible offensive or rule breaking posts are ' removed ' pending review , then if found non offensive by a panel of regular trusted members are re-instated,

when forum ' owners ' bury their heads in the sand with regard to comments from their members, its the start of the end

well, that's me open to some retort............

Agreed, I had a post disappear a few days ago (removed ?)
Gone, no reason given, just disappeared.
My guess is that it was becuase there was a political aspect to the post. This however was in reply to two other posts that had wandered into a slightly political area. They both remained. Mmmmm strange that , as my post was in no way politically aggressive or contentious.

Now, I have zero interest in any chat room , others seem to, we differ. That does not mean either are right or wrong.

I cannot speak for others but most of the time I am reading the '10 most recent posts' and replying through that medium. I am therefore usually replying to a specific post, rarely aware of what forum topic group it actually is in.
I suspect most other posters do the same so it is easy to see why and how easily subjects go off topic.
