As much as I enjoy reading the mag, I have noticed that the forum seldom gets a mention. i thought it would be in the interest of Kelsey publishing to promote the forum, and to bring more members to the fray.

I used to buy a trucking magazine a while ago and they would regularly print quotes from postings made on their online forum (which I was also a member of, but I got fed up talking about trucks after driving them all day)

If you don't have a 'puter and buy the magazine, you would think that the forum doesn't exist Sad

Incidentally, I only found this forum by accident, after googling something (I can't remember what) and this site came up first, and the rest, as they say, is history Smiley

Other than that, liking the mag very much Smiley

Dan.

It's a good point Dan...and one that Archie has pushed in the past.  There was a mention about 12 months ago about the forum and prompting our handmade window sticker.  You would have thought the Magazine and Forum would self promote each other but it doesn't appear to be the case.  Althougth the magazine has taken the odd question or comment from the forum for inclusion in the letters page they do seem to be treated as seperate entities.

Does everyone on the forum read JWM magazine or subscribe to it? I've been reading it (the magazine) since issue 1 when it was Jaguar Quarterly.  In fact if you dig out issue 2 you will find they printed a letter from me saying how good the magazine was.

We don't seem to discuss many of the articles on this forum...if I suspected the editor read more of the comments I would be inclined to provide more feedback on the content.

Does everyone on the forum read JWM magazine or subscribe to it?

yes I used to, from 1996 to 2000.  I loved it, the only car magazine I subscribed to, and I haven't subscribed to any other since. I did complain to Paul Skilleter about the binding change, it cheapened the publication, they must have heard me because they came back to the "squared" binding. I still have all issues, a couple of the Blue JW Binders, and a number of Posters and videos I ordered in those 4 years. I still browse through the old issues, it's a real good magazine, even @ 10 years old.

the reasons I stopped subscribing are two:

1)  the magazine became very oriented to XJ-S and modern Saloons, so I couldn't relate to the magazine any more, being that my 2 Jags are old, a 1984 and a 1965, and that's where I have remained. The magazine's restoration projects became fewer and fewer.

2)  the subscription service in the US left a lot to be desired, in the sense that the US representative for JW was/is not a very user-friendly business, a number of times I did not receive my copy, which was mailed from the US representative's business, and when I called to complain, it took them 2 months to replace it. At the same time they charged a very high price for a 1 yr. subscription, and for that kind of money, you would expect better service, like 1st Class mail, not 4th Class.

To be fair, the Editor and another Kelsey gentleman told me that they would send my copy directly if I would continue my subscription, (I was very honored by the offer), but reason #1 was still a factor, I was getting bored with modern Jaguars on the cover. I wanted more on the Small and Big Saloons of the 1950's and 1960's, which of course, nobody bothers with.

I also found this forum by accident, while searching for Jaguar Parts Classifieds. (Jag Ads took me to the forum).

regards,
Jos

I buy the magazine very rarely, perhaps twice in the last 4 years.

The main reason being that I felt there was too much emphasis on the current range of Jaguars and not enough on the XJS or the older classic Jags.

This forum, however is great with a real mix of information and people. I like the way the message boards are divided so I only have to read what is relavant to me. All the members are fantasic and able to answer just about any question imaginable.

I found this site by chance in a general google search for XJS information soon after buying the car

Hi all, Just to let you know that Matt skelton has re-acted in a very positive way to your thoughts and there will be a permanent link to the Forum on the 'Letters' page of the magazine from September onwards.
Great input, thanks Dan and all.
N.B. I also asked about Forum Cards for members. This was requested by Roly and (I think, Dan, but I can't find the posts now!). The response was that it would not be a feasible idea to provide cards for every member. I can see that the logistics would be difficult! Allow the mods one small priviledge!?
Cheers, Archie.
P.S. Jacqeline, Time to buy your third copy? Smiley

Archie, give her time to find her dad's Police S type first, then she can buy another copy of JW, where it will be the feature car. Unfortunately, I think that car is in Australia or the US.

You are most welcome, Archie, and that's great news about the link Smiley

And David, I agree, it would be good to discuss some of the articles from the magazine, here on the forum, as there are some really interesting features in the magazine that are worth discussing. Maybe more effort from our good-selves is needed in this area! Smiley

I've been subscribing to JWM for over two years now, since first buying an XK8. I used to buy the odd issue even before that. However, it's only today that I found out that there is a JWM Forum, having found the link on another Jaguar forum site  Embarrassed

Having registered, I now realise I am a member of 5 different Jaguar Forums plus PistonHeads.

I really do need to get a life  Embarrassed

How on earth do you guys do it! I joined the JEC XJS Forum but found that I couldn't keep up to date with the reading. I wanted to join the Jaguar Forum, but decided that I couldn't do it justice. This Forum already takes more of my time than I care to measure!
I have thought about it and I realise that my problem is to do with time spent on conventional reading, as follows -
Newspaper every day, read fairly thoroughly - 1 hour
Weekly - Professional magazine to keep abreast of my trade knowledge.
Monthly - JWM, JEC and JDC mags plus Top Gear (second hand from son-in-law).
Bedtime reading - usually a novel but currently non-fiction on the history of the Middle East issues.
I wonder why I have trouble fitting my work in!? Cheers, Archie.

They seem to do so here. When there is a give away promotion they seem to fly off the shelves.
I personally think that there is always a place for hard copy - it's that tactile thing!
Cheers, Archie.

i am an active member of three Jaguar forums, two photography forums and a few other places,

i dont read newspapers, politically biased yesterdays old news if you ask me, sold on sensationalism ,

i read the JWM & JEC magazine once a month, but it usually only takes one evening to read the whole mag ,

oh, and for the next three weeks i will be glued to the TV watching ' le tour ' ( the tour de france ) as i have seen it every year for the last 25 years  Cheesy

and in my free time, i relax with a cognac Grin
