Brands Hatch - 28th February. JEC track day. I can go but it must be tricky for the workers (it's a Thursday). Thanks to Roy garrett I also know now how to get in to the pits, though I'm not sure how legal this is if you're not actually paying to drive!
Cheers, Archie

Hi Archie, made note of the date and will be there if weather ok but only to watch the action. Would love to have a go on the track with the XJS but havn't got the bottle, keep telling myself am too old now. Anyway could turn out expensive as I would probably bend or break something. So, see you in the pits. Roy G.

I'd love to have a go too, but I agree that the prospect of bending something is just too daunting! Smiley See you there. Cheers, Archie.

Hi, Just confirming that I will be at the Track Day at Brands next Thursday and will be meeting up with two longstanding Forum members. Hope to see anyone else that can make it - Roy, are you still up for it? Cheers, Archie.

I hope you enjoy it. Sounds fun. Which group is running the event & any idea what'll be racing that day?

Hi Jules, As per first post about this day, it's the JEC. As to what is running, as it's a track day, it depends entirely upon who decides to turn up. Marsta had indicated that Gail Hill was due to attend with one of her racers but unfortunately he tells me she can't make it.
It's still fun though, even just to watch and see the cars in the pits. Cheers, Archie.

Brands Hatch today:Great day with lots of cars and the weather was ok. Took a few pic's but can't get the hang of moving cars with my Fugi S5500 due to delay on shutter, anyway following about the best even after cropping and re-sizing being Jaguar World's Matt Skelton in his 1988 3.6 XJ-s. Good to see you agin Archie. Roy

Three Horseshoes Classic Vehicles: Just noticed that the first meeting is this Sunday 16th at The Threehoeshoes pub Nockholt, Kent from 12noon. Seems that the meets are on the third Sunday each month until October. Not a Jaguar event, have only been once before and was a mixed collection of vehicles but if the weather is ok good excuse to get the XJS out. Cheers, Roy

Hi Roy, I've always got these meets in my diary, but mainly for when there's nought much else happening!
At present I'm half committed to driving up for the JafuarForum get together at the Harvester Flamstead (Junc 9 M1). Usually consists of the more modern vehicles with lots of S Types.
However, let me know if you are defintely going to the THree Horseshoes, as it is local and will be more convenient for me, as I have a lot on at present. I wonder if long_john will be there this time? Cheers, Archie.

This is really best suited to Sussex/Kent members. There is a Charity Run taking place on the 17th May. It is advertised as being for cars up to 1980 but they are open to anything unusual or nice! They have 36 cars at present and are looking for a total of 50.
The aim is to raise funds for  a local hospice. The day starts at the Bluebell Railway with a bacon buttie breakfast, then a run across the Ashdown Forest in to Kent and a pub where coffee and biscuits will be available (or whatever else you fancy at your own cost). Then it's back to the Hospice for a hog roast about mid afternoon. It ain't especially cheap at £55 but the food's included and as it's not a Jaguar event the chance to get up close to other classics will be interesting. I can't seem to place a link here but if you think you might be interested I can email the full details to you. Cheers, apax.

apax, I have been to a few of those, did not remember seeing you there.   They don't meet there anymore.  I have organised one at The Cowper Arms for that forum for this Sunday 31st May for 12noon, you are most welcome to come along and anyone else who is in the region.   Smiley

Also, there is a good value event coming up at Silverstone.  The Renault World Series racing on Sunday 5th July.  We have a contact there who can send you free tickets and you can have the use of the Brooklands hospitality suite all day with breakfast (bacon and sausage in rolls), lunch,-  tea, coffee and soft drinks all day.  All for a bargain price of £50 for a whole days entertainment.

Silverstone Classic 24-26 July
There will be an advert in the JEC main club mag for this weekend as Jaguar are the featured marque.

Check out http://www.prestigesportsevents.com/page14.htm for Dean's website.

If you are interested in either event don't wait, just contact Dean Sheppard direct on email info@prestigesportsevents.com
or phone him on 0207 193 2422 and make sure you explain you are responding to Phil's details.    Smiley

Hi Phil, That's a very generous offer re Silverstone. Sorry I won't be able to attend your get together at the Cowper Arms tomorrow.
I have only attended one Jaguar Forum meeting at Flamwell, which I think was two years ago. It was just after Chris joined us here. It was interesting to see rows of modern Jaguars, instead of the usual Mk 2s, E Types etc..
Where were you on the L to B?? Mind you, our parking arrangements went to pot, due to poor communication. One of the marshals seemed to think that our bays were fair game for anyone, so you may not have found room with us! Cheers, apax

Apax, this is Phils wife Angie.   Wink

Sorry we could not make the L to B, we were just back from Thailand and very broke.  Sounds like it was a good day out as well.  Oh well, next time.

Hopefully we can attend more of your meetings and it will be good to get to know some of you.

A xx

There is a Classic Car Show at Borde Hill Gardens, Haywards Heath this Sunday (7th). I will be there with the JEC East Sussex Region who have a display. Don't know yet whether I can drive the Cab as my right foot is bandaged, but if it still fits between the brake pedal and the side panel I'll probably give it a go! (Otherwise I'll take the Cherokee and hide it!)
Will be glad to meet up with any members in the locality that can make it. I have never been there but I understand that it's a nice location. Cheers, apax.

Hi Archie, I will go to the Borde Hill Gardens event on the 7th, went there couple of years back with the Kent region JDC, was a good day. Do I need to contact anyone to get into the JEC parking area? Sorry to read about your foot, if you cannot drive the cab can I give you a lift? Regards, Roy

Hope to see you both, although Roy has told me he's not coming out in the rain. Roy - If you do come just drive up to the display area (before 10 am) and I'm sure they'll fit you in, as long as you don't mention my name!! I'm going whatever as I've made the commitment to the committee. Cheers, apax.

Ravenswood School Classic Car Show - I'm doing a day display with the Cab here tomorrow. If you're local, it's well worth a visit as I would describe it as a smaller version of the Bromley Pageant (but still biggish). There's lots going on and a very good mix of vehicles.
Easy to find - Go to Keston Mart (a traffic light junction), on the A232, and the school is about 200 yards off to the left or right, depending which direction you're coming from. It may well be sign posted anyway. Cheers, apax.

Oh well, I'm usually wrong most of the time! Nobody turned up anyway. It was a good meeting, with many more traders than previous years. The weather stayed fine and the cars were, as I said, most of those thatwere at the Pageant.
I did however meet the most objectionable XJS owner I've ever known. Totally full of his own p***ing importance. Cheers, apax.

Well, having just looked at all the pics from the 'Entente Cordiale' this is going to seem like very small beer! Grin
However, there is a small but important event coming up this Saturday, 4th July. It's in aid of 'Help for Heroes' and billed as a'Boy's Toys Charity Event'. I'm planning to support it. The venue is - Ham Cottage, Highbrook, Ardingly, West Sussex, RH17 6SR - 11 until 4pm.
If any South East members can make it it would be good. Cheers, apax.

Hi all, Biggish event this Sunday (26th) at Uppark House (National Trust). East and West Sussex Regions of the JEC are combining, and expecting a good turnout. Entry is £4 and it's at South Harting, Petersfield, GU31 5QR. Be good to see any local Forum Members there! Cheers, apax.

I had a very good afternoon/evening at a Brands Hatch track day last Thursday, organised by the Pistonheads Forum. Many thanks to Julesjag for the tipoff.
They had the new XJ there and an XFR, acompanied by Ian Callum. I managed to get a chat with him, and he now seems to think that I'm responsible for the JWM magazine!! Ah well, not worth arguing!
Some pics to follow (if enough space has been made by now). The first is me pretending to be a proud owner. Cheers, apax.

By coincidence 'Stig' Skelton was there too, doing some tyre testing in his XJS. I was impressed by the way he seemed to be 'hauling in' the other track participants, but he was apparently disappointed with his times.

Finally, the XFR.
Couldn't get any actio shots as my camera, and my technique were not up to it!.......but the sight of flames emanating from Matt's XJS's exhausts was impressive.......and I'm not kidding!

Cheers, Roy

Hi Roy ,
does this meeting still take place .

Hi Alan, Roy's alter ego here! Yes it does still take place, but it's not a Jaguar event. Roy and I have used it as an excuse to air our cars and meet up for a chinwag in the past. It's fairly low key and there are some oddball vehicles (like a pimped Cortina with a table, flowers and glasses in the rear!).
It gets publicity from the Kent JEC as they hold their monthly meetings at the Three Horseshoes, and the owner is (supposedly) a Jaguar enthusiast.
The last one was in my diary as being on the 18th, but I have no date for a May. Cheers, apax.

Faversham Classic Car Show - 22nd May. I will probably be there this Sunday. I've only done it once and was impressed with the entrants, quite different to the norm, and also the fact that the cars are parked on the streets in the centre of Faversham.
Any one else going? Nick, Alan? Cheers, apax.

Archie - Really sorry to have missed. Just didn't log on so missed your message (I've pm'd you).

Have to say really good event with something for everyone. If anything, too popular but it all adds to the occasion. I've added a couple of jag related stuff pictures but doesn't really do justice to the caliber of the display.

The MK2 looks very nice. Don't actually know the guy but he works close by to me so have seen it around. It's for sale.

Happy motoring

Hi Nick, Agreed! A very good show with an amazing spread of vehicle marques. A sort of party atmosphere too.
That 420 was really something special. The dark blue 340 may be for sale but you wouldn't think he's too serious. No price on it and, more importantly, no phone number. There was a beauty just off Market Square in Dark Green with light beige upholstery, a stunner!
Very good day out, with only one brief shower. Cheers, apax.

Is anybody else doing the Bromley Pageant (one mark parking)?

Still waiting for some feedback from Archie and Roy from the “South Downs” run. Unfortunately I missed this one as was up North with my parents.

Happy days

Hi Nick. I believe Roy took some pictures on the South Downs Run. It was a great day out, but tiring, as we had to drive to Chichester and then the run was 3 hours back to Eastbourne. It was supposed to be 2 hours but we missed several turn offs, which was down to my navigating. Have to say there were no 'tulip' instructions and the whole directions were written in script format. This meant that extra stress was on driver and navigator as we were searching for signs, junctions et al with no mileage indications. The organiser had told me that it could be done without a navigator - yeah, right!! Didn't see any driver doing it on their own! Great turnout of about 90 cars I think. Will I do it next year? Probably not.
This weekend the 5th. Hamstreet Show (nr. Ashford, Kent). Both JDC and JEC attending. My first time.
Sunday the 12th. Bromley Pageant. I have attended this for longer than I care to think as I lived very close by for 25 years. This year will be no exception, and I believe we may also see Reg Hester with his fab Mk 10. Alan Gregory and Julian Shepherd will be there too, so see you there Nick!
Sunday the 19th New Place Farm Show, Framfield, East Sussex. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.
Saturday the 25th. ESJEC Treasure Hunt. Details at www.esjec.com. Cheers, apax.

Hi Archie (and others). Really sorry to have missed the South Downs Run but from what you say might have benefited from "Tulip" style instructions (ala LtoB). Did enjoy a good run up to Yorkshire to see the Parents. A nice and relaxed trip up the A1 for once.

Aiming to get to Hamstreet but not definite. Will get to Bromley. Hopefully not too late to get the one mark parking if I phone through on Monday.

Lets all hope the weather holds out (bring on the hosepipe ban)

Arrived at a fairly wet Bromley this morning but still a great showing. Lots for everyone.

Sorry Archie not to have had a proper catch up but we needed to disappear earlier. Hope you had a good event. Didn't see Roy, wonder if he made it?

I did take some pictures. Not all Jag but obviously some nice XJSs and XJ-Ss out there today.

View back into the one make parking area.

Two very nice XJSs but I think I'd go for the BRG one!

One for Roly perhaps!

I stood standing   Grin all day out in the rain hoping somebody would ask to look inside the car so I could show off all the new carpet , now I find a photo on here , a missed opportunity there  Roll Eyes , and I could have posed for the shot   Grin

Roly the car was definitely Green , and the powder blue car had straight pipes , these cars were there last year .

I have seen that powder blue car with the fish tails you mention , but now wondering  if this might not be the same car with them removed. This car was sold not so long ago ,  unfortunately the new owner was not very keen to talk so gathered no information .

XjRestorations Open Day. Keith is opening up his workshops for viewing this Sunday the 10th. It's meant to be a sociable event where anyone within reasonable reach can bring their Jaguar (ample parking) and just relax and chat, and even ask questions!
Keith has also asked the firms he works with to display, particularly in the diagnostics field.
The day starts at 10 o'clock and the location is -
Unit 5C, Southbourne Business Park, Courtlands Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 8UY. Cheers, apax.

Pleased to report that the XjRestorations Open Day was a success. The sun shone all day and there was ample opportunity to enjoy it with outdoor tables and chairs. Folks were arriving on the dot of 10 o'clock and there was soon a very 'full house' until just after mid day when many disappeared for their Sunday roast! The PM saw a steady stream of visitors and Keith was nearly all in by 3 pm after talking, explaining and being sociable all day, as everyone wanted his attention. It was also an impressive display of his company's work. I had an enjoyable day and look forward to the next one. Cheers, apax.

...and I'm running a Summer Charity Drive Day on Sunday the 31st. Starting from Starbucks Cafe at Sainsburys in Bannister Way, Haywards Heath at 10 a.m.. 45 miles through scenic Sussex, taking in the Ashdown Forest, with some very simple clues to solve en route. Finishing at a secret location in East Sussex. A great pub with a classic car enthusiast owner. Wine for the best clue solver, and wine for the raffle winner.
Just turn up..but try to let me know if you can make it (catering reasons). Cheers, apax.

Didn't make it to Borde Hill Gdns, shame  Sad
The cars all look pristine so I think mine would have stood out as being a bit dirty from daily use

I quite agree Nev. I'm much more interested in driving than keeping it clean

JEC Sussex Day 10th June at Herstmonceux Castle.
www.esjec.com for details.
Last year we were at Borde Hill - see early post.
This year should be just as good.

Hope to see you there. Smiley

Is anyone going to Brooklands this weekend? I think JEC have an interest but thought I might just go have a look (providing the XJS passes it's MOT on Friday)  Smiley
