Engine covers

I liked Matt Skelton's editorial in this month's edition - it certainly struck a few chords with me. I don't know how widespread the use of plastic engine covers is and how much is "safety" related but I certainly think they are intimidatory. They sort of send out a message "Here be Dragons" and discourage owners from DIY servicing. So more work for the dealerships! Is this partly the intention? Or am I being too cynical?!  Smiley

I'm with you John on this. I reckon the real reason is that they just cannot be bothered to make engines look pretty anymore. They are no longer works of art but a mere cacophony of parts desined for a specific task and no more.
