Hi Roly, As indicated by me and now Matt Skelton, you have nothing to apologise for. In fact, Kelsey's initial reaction was that you (and others) were entitled to air your views. It is only on reflection and after referring it that they have decided to err on the side of caution.
As you now know, the matter is under investigation. We'll wait and see what the result might be. Regards, Archie.

I think the answer is to have a new board for Jaguar parts and service providers where a thread can be started under the heading of the service provider i.e. XJ Restorations and forum members can then post feedback on their experiences with the named provider good or bad. This would be a very democratic way of doing things, which would allow members to give personal opinions, and if all members resist the urge to debate or discuss a posting then it will serve as useful source of information for all when looking for parts and services. If we take Jag Breakers for example I have ordered a number of parts from them recently and have received reasonably priced items all in excellent condition, I have at times had to chase up a few orders that were expected by a certain time but it must be taken into consideration that despite having a lot of common parts already removed they are not really an off the shelf provider and sometimes the most suitable part may take time to remove from a car. Would I use Jag Breakers again, well the answer is yes as I have ordered another item today.
I do remember reading some comments by members that had some bad experiences with them but cannot recall any details regarding what Roly had posted however I feel very strongly about the freedom of speech and Roly should be entitled to his opinions. It’s a shame that he and others have had some bad experiences as I am sure there are many out there who have had a positive experience, that’s why I think a new board would be a perfect way for members to post feedback good or bad and as long as its left at that and not dragged out into a online saga. On many shopping sites you can read customer product reviews both positive and negative which can be helpful, as long as you remember that its just personal opinion. I also feel that the business named can benefit from this, as it will provide beneficial customer feedback to help improve their services.
Below are a number of Jaguar parts and service providers which I have had positive dealings with over the years:
David Manners
SNG Barratt
JDHT
Wynn Thomas
Jag Breakers
Woolies
Ward Engineering
I have not yet used the services of XJ Restorations but despite being a bit further a field I would based on the comments on this forum and the work displayed both on this forum and their website.
To conclude ad the new board its not difficult.

I see the potential for serious problems.
Such "reviews" often turn into little more than the public airing of business disputes. Since the vendors seldom know they are being reviewed, their side of the story (and there are
ALWAYS
two sides to a story) is never heard, thus turning the board into a one-sided consumer complaint department. This would be grossly unfair and possibly bring on some legal issues based on "defamation"....don't laugh, its has happened.
Better to insist that only
good
experiences are listed and discussed. If word about this spreads then the last thing a vendor will want is to be left off the "good guy list".
Cheers

No way - if you don't allow negative comment, then positive comment may create a misleading impression. All or nothing.
Traders are free to sign up and defend themselves and can be automatically notified every time a comment is made.
PS: I'd love to know what Roly said.

Yeah, then the forum turns into some sort of consumer grievance board, with people fighting, taking sides, etc. I've seen it. Its ugly !

If moderated correctly, it works well. If the moderators don't do their "job" properly then it can get messy.

That's the one! As it turned out, it was fortuitous for me, as I have had a load of work done since then, that would have been very tricky with waxoyle everywhere. I should be getting it protected in the very near future. Cheers, apax

From my limited experience of various forums I remember very very well a situation which occured on the Volvo Owners Club forum which ended in legal action where the complaints for and against a trader were discussed in great detail. It got very heated and should have been stopped by the Mods. It did not. When it went court copies were made of the discussions that took place on the forum. As a point of general interest I have to be very careful of any opinion I express relative to my profession as what I advise, if found to be wrong I can be legaly responsible. Evidence can be printed from these web pages and used. It has been known stateside that owners of forums have been required to produce membership details. Lets hope that never happens in the UK, but, I don't think we are far away. I think the option of only passing comments regarding good service is a good one. I can't imagine what would happen if it was permitted for deflammatory comments to be published about anybody it could get get very personnel. There is of course situations which occure where very bad service is provided and there is a dispute, you have written to the provider of this bad service and you publish the letter on a forum site after you have informed the provider you are going to do so. I would leave the final decision up to the owners of the site to make the final decision, I would not even burden the responsibility on the Mods.

Hi - did a separate thread ever get made?
Unfortunately and with regret, I will be taking legal action against Jag Breakers as of tomorrow.
Ben from Jag Breakers was really helpful and friendly and what I ordered, I thought it would be perfect after someone smashed and ran on my front wing and bonnet. They confirmed that they were the same colour, model, perfect condition and at a great price.. I was so chuffed it was going to save me several hundred quid.
They get delivered to the garage, and that is when it all went wrong.
Wrong colour, bent, scratched - and that wasn't the delivery as they were packaged really well. The parts had been ripped off the donor car and were really really bad.
Ben appeared helpful, promised to get them picked up. That was in November 2009, and after numerous calls and emails, I give up! The defective parts were finally picked up, but still no sign of the promised refund.
Sorry Ben and Jag Breakers - I will not be done over, and will be going legal, even if it costs me double what you owe. I have given you more than enough chances.
