Condensation in headlights
04.05.2009 at 11:55:23
I had a problem with condensation in both headlamps on my 4.2 xkr 2002 model. I bought the small "T" pieces and without removing the headlamps O drilled the hole in the boss at the side.
Using a small pump that had a suction port, connected with a 8mm PVC tube I vacuumed out the swarf.
Now the problem has completely gone.
"T" peice part number RD6B7H Tube-T-Piece £1.38 + VAT each
Thes just slip over the boss, I added a dab of superglue to make
certain they would not come off.
On one side there is a small area of blemish on the inside of the glass, due to the dried our condensation, but I can live with that.

I too would welcome photographs.
I'm a little timid when it comes to playing with my P&J.
I would also welcome photographs of a door mirror strip.

This is a never ending discussion topic. It can simply be solved once and for all time as I have done with the XK8's I've owned. Remove the perspex cover and drill a hole in the centre of it at least one centimetre in diameter. Repeat the same for the other lamp.
Purchasing and putting in the T-piece pipes just don't give enough ventilation.
Whatever the weather, I have not had a drop of condensation since nor has any water entered through the drilled holes.

I had this problem two years ago after car left out in the snow but one side only. I fitted the T pieces but later found water was getting inside due to poor seal between the glass and bulb holder. Bought a new glass which came with a new gasket and problem solved, touch wood no more problems. Did fit the T piece to the new glass. Cheers, Roy

Probably shouldn't be promoting but there is an interesting article on this in JEC this month.

Why not Nick? You're not selling, and JEC and Kelsey are 'hand in glove' anyway. JEC is a real benefit to us owners I reckon. Cheers, apax.
