XK8 Headlamp removal
14.01.2010 at 14:06:14

Can anyone tell me procedure for removing the headlamp units on XK8 Coupe? I want to drill through the stub pipe and fit the ventillation "T" piece and guess this best done with the unit out of the car.
Have experienced condensation for the first time, probably as have been using the car in the recent bad weather. Good article in JWM Aug 2008 on condensation and bulb upgrade.
Cheers, Roy  Cool

I have done this without removing the headlamps. I used a smallish drill and easily accessed the boss with the bonnet open.
I used a small pump (fish tank size) with an 8mm pvc tube and the suction port to vacuum out the swarf
Then I super glued the "T" pieces for added assurance.
This solved my problem completely.
I did have a blemish on one lamp due to past condensation leaving a dried patch, but this is of no concern.
I posted this in 2008 on another Jag site.
The whole job cost less than £2 and took 20 minutes only.

Good luck, let me know how you get on

Received today from SNG Barratt the two plastic T pieces, £2.90 + p&p. Friend has given me workshop manual CD-Rom so know how to remove the light units but will try drilling in situ first. Cheers, Roy Cool

I have the workshop manual and it took me a while to work out that to remove the headlights you need to remove the panel from inside your wheel arch! Once I worked that it it was easy to remove.

Job done, managed to carefully drill through the stub pipe with the headlamps in situ, 7mm drill don't think any debris got inside the lamp unit. Fitted the T-pieces so now time will tell if that solves the problem.
Headlamp removal appears to be quite simple but glad I didn't have to go that far, particularly as they would need realignment I guess.
Thanks Peterpiper for the pm and info. Cheers, Roy Cool

Don't want to make you too nervous, but check out the price of XK8 headlamp units before starting work.
Cheers
