JAGUAR XJR miss from cold.
25.01.2010 at 13:57:57

Hi everyone, just bought a 1997 jaguar XJR 6 cylinder and it has a miss, from cold, which appears to get higher up the rev range as it get's warmer. Once warm it seems to drive fine. It starts and 'ticks' over fine, it's just when you put your foot down quickly, it appears to miss. Gradual throttle and the problem is not there. No smoke or water issues. I'm guessing, electrical or fuel. I've removed a few of the coils and have noticed at least 3 have cracks up the thickest part of the shaft, would this be causing the car to break down? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

The cracks in the coils could well be the source of the missfire, so I'd think about replacing them first.

Agree, the sparks somehow meets more resistance when the engine works hard.
I have 'lost' the alternator a few times in my old 2CV, and it will go far on battery, but it will misfire when I push the engine, more and more as the battery goes flat. That can only be because the sparkplugs sparks easier when the load is light.

Hi again, just replaced the cracked coils and the miss is still there, only apparent when pressing the throttle down hard, it miproves as the car gets warmer, but is always there when pressing the throttle down hard when in neutral. Any furthur ideas???

Hi everyone, just disconnected the air flow meter and the running of the XJR didn't alter, is this correct??

Have you now got an engine management warning light on?
Maybe you need to get fault codes read.
Cheers
