This year's London to Brighton - £72 a bit steep?
28.01.2010 at 09:51:49

Just seen the flyer for the event, have enjoyed it in the past but £72 seems a bit steep. Especially as last year the bacon buttie queue was impossibly long and likewise the wait at the cafe at the Observatory. Now for £72 you could have a good lunch en route or in Brighton so its tempting to vaguely follow the route, park on the top road in Brighton and wander down to look at the cars. Add to this the fact that its late April again leaving many members with older cars that are SORNed during the winter the choice of taxing them earlier than they would like or taking a chance (not that anyone would do that!). Regards, Chris.

So what you are thinking is perhaps suggesting the event should be a little later in the year. Perhaps more invited trade and entertainment as a way of offsetting the quite possibly high overheads with a proportionate entrance fee reduction.

You don't get much for 70 squids these days! Took the family to see that 3D film currently doing the rounds! You gets what you pays for I guess!

It is a good event and worth going a long too, but quite often it is the "getting there" where all the fun is to be had!  Cheesy

Nick, the timing isn't really a problem for me, the last couple of years have had good weather in Brighton. The comment about SORN and Tax has also come up in discussions about Drive it Day, as a lot of cars don't get put back on the road until May. Agree more could be made of the Brighton end, it always seems a bit of an anticlimax once you've parked up. Great event though. Cheers, Chris.

I don't think I will part with £72 quid, but, if the weather is good, could well have a trip down to Sussex, have a daughter who lives at Peacehaven, so a meet in Brighton, could be fun. Always liked Brighton, although now it seems to be the Gay capitol of England, Roly better bring plenty of lub Wink Wink  Roly what car are you thinking of bringing ?? if I remember rightly, the MK 10 did you're back in last time you used it for a long run, is the Majestic up and running ?
     All the best Brian

I realy have no choice but to attend this year seeing the start is on my doorstep , but £72 is starting to sound exspensive , you possibly could get a Hotel room for the night at that price including breakfast , tempting to just drive down and stay the night . Lets hope fees dont rise too much as it is a good day out and would be a shame to see it die  .

There's always the option of doing an unofficial drive on the same day. Pick a nice route from North Kent, arrive early in Brighton and watch the cars arriving. And best of all if the weather is crap you don't waste your money by having a lie in!

I've been thinking about it, as there are other expensive events to consider, but I'll be there too Alan. Cheers, apax.

Hi all, Matt Skelton has kindly contacted me with regard to the reserved parking arrangements for this year's London to Brighton Jaguar Run, and promises to avoid the problems of last year, where our spaces were given away by an uninformed marshall!
At the moment, I know that Alan, John and I will be there. Can you please let me know here immediately if you are booked, or planning to book, so that we can assess the total number of bays needed.
This is a useful privilege, as the reserved parking for Forum memebers is always immediatel after the Finish Line, on the left, which saves a lot of walking, is close to the refreshments and toilets and facilitates a grand chinwag!! Cheers, Archie.

I'm hoping to see some Forum cars parked-up on Brighton seafront when you reach here.

We did go along last year and had a look around for a while. However, I think we were there too early
as the reserved parking area was empty. I expect you'd all stopped off somewhere for a paddle and an ice
cream!  Grin
