Sticking valve?
07.02.2010 at 16:58:44

Hi Guys

I have a '98 3.2 sport. The timing chains have just been replaced and the car is mostly running like new again.

Howver, every now and again it seems to be as if there is s slight hesitiation in power and "kick down" seems sluggish. I have checked the usual cuplrits (throttle body and coil packs) and am now starting to think maybe a sticking valve or ecu problem. I don't think there is a bent valve situation.

Is there an easy way to check or any products you would recommend to clean the valve operation.

Thanks

Mine was a bit like that - I changed the Airflow Meter and she flies again. Or at least she did and will again once I fit the new knock sensor!

Tried absolutely everything now to rectify this. Cleaned the throttle body, valve cleaner, fuel injector cleaner and changed the mass air flow meter and filter. Still got the problem and the amber Engine Failsafe Mode light comes on.

However might be able to identify it a bit better now. Revving it up in my driveway, the engine failsafe light comes on when there is the minutist amount of pressure put on the throttle. I mean only raising the revs by literally 5 revs if that.

It is obviously an intermitent electrical fault based aroung the throttle somehow. Are there any sensors based around the throttle peddle to check?

Thanks
