My XJ40

Just a few shot's of my latest purchase spent a few hours on it this morning the main objective was to get some collinite wax on the car

I have the orignal arm rest and steering wheel the previous owner did not like skinny wheels. And the arm rest was slighty coming away with the weight of the arm from underneath.  I will also remove the Union Jack badges from either side.  I had to call it a day after 4 hours it  was far too cold

That's a nice looking car. Isn't it unusual that it's got the black section on the boot though, I thought only very early XJ40's had that  Huh

Very nice colour combination, and especially nice wheels. In my view, one of the few wheel options that Jaguar got right. I like Diamond blue too, seems to suit the 40. What with that and a 4 litre engine - veryu nice. Cheers, apax.

This is a lovely car in excellent condition. The paint and interior look immaculate and the engine bay is mighty impressive too.
I have seen a few XJ40s with the black rear panel from the first Sovereigns and Daimlers fitted, I believe it just screws on. I have seen a couple of cars with that part of the boot lid painted black too; I'd guess a previous owner just preferred the look.

Your car would have come with "teardrop" alloys new which came in a metric size for your model year and are very expensive to replace. These "kiwi" alloys have been fitted at a later date. They were available on very late XJ40s and but are more often seen on the X300.

The XJ40 came with a full sized spare up 'till 1994. It looks like the owner who fitted the new wheels has bought four full size plus a space saver which is why the space saver is too small.

I like arctic blue too. My own car is diamond blue which is a very similar colour.

Thanks for the comments it was getting me thinking about the black plate on the tailgate.  I was aware that alloy had been replace from 15s to 16s what would eb the logic behind this

Hi db, My '90 40 was Diamond Blue, which I'm pretty sure was brought in for the model, and is probaly the colour on Stealth's car. Hard to tell in pics? My '87 XJ-SC is Arctic Blue, which is a shade darker.
Hi Stealth, Re the wheels. There's not necessarily any logic if the original alloys were indeed 15". It's quite likely just a matter of peronal taste. I changed to 16" wheels on my Cabriolet (original factory fitment was 15" pepperpots) as I think they look better. However, if the original wheels were teardrops and metric which is likely, it would make sense as the tyres for metric wheels are harder to come by and cost the earth. Some 40s were fitted with 15" lattice alloys as a factory option. Cheers, apax.

AH I remember the owner mentioning about the tyres being funny size's for the previous alloys.

The paint code is JFN if that helps with the colour

JFN is diamond blue, the same as mine.
The metric wheels are 220 65 390 - so 15.35inch wheels. The tyres are hundreds of pounds each, so you've really got to want to retain them.
