Air Con Spares

HI,
I am in the process of fixing the usual fault on an XJS where the blowers only work on high speed. Many of you will know that this is caused by the small pcb that is attached to the blower casing. As far as I know this is not available as a spare and the usual remedy is to buy a second hand working blower unit.
In the process of this repair I may get some new PCB's made, if so would anyone else be interested?
I know the same problem afflicts the saloons with the Delanair system as well. If I do this I will get 20 PCB's made and will only need 4 so potentially 16 left. No idea on pricing yet but vastly cheaper than a new or even 2nd hand blower unit I suspect (the bare unpopulated PCB will come in at around £7.
Any interest please let me know.
Cheers
Mark

I
thought
the usual remedy was to replace the damaged components on the PCB, or at least that's the one I've read about and done myself. It cost a few pence in components from Maplin and a Saturday afternoon. Surely cheaper than getting PCB s made professionally? Or have I missed something?

That's what I did
I think I spent about $20 on parts....including some extras that I tossed in my box of goodies.
After the abject misery of removing blower motors the DIY PCB overhaul was a pleasant and painless diversion.
I can see a market for pre-made replacement boards, though.
Cheers

Doug has hit the nail on the head, my thinking is that many people will not be up to replacing the components and if I was to do this I may as well do it properly and base it on a new PCB and use uprated components.
Also thinking about mounting the power transistor on a heatsink to improve cooling.
If I go down this route I want the things to last and be built like the proverbial tank.
As I said just pondering and if as I suspect I have a damaged pcb, rather than use a pegboard I would like to use a proper pcb and these are made in batches so I would end up with some spares. My pcb's are going off today to someone who knows a lot more about electronics than me for a second opinion and it was his suggestion about the possibility of remaking the boards. Hopefully the ones I send off will be fine (or repairable).
Cheers

Mark – I think I’m going to have to do this job on my current car, will probably go the Maplins route. I have a couple of complete units somewhere in my shed but there is absolutely no guarantee of their condition. I purchased them about 7 years ago (fleebay) as being reconditioned. Not sure.

Nick,
It is easy to check the units once you have one blower out of the car as there are just 2 electrical connectors. Using these will show if the blowers will work on all speeds.
I see there are blowers on Ebay now that are supposed to be fully working and you can get a pair for £50 delivered if you get stuck.
Maplins are unable to supply the Darlington transistor you need, I found some on Ebay, have a look at item number 290533150257, delivery is a bit steep but the parts are very cheap and they arrived with me quickly enough.
Cheers

Hello Mark,
I'd be interested in buying at least two PCBs if you did have some made up. Have PM'd you also.
Cheers
