New Car
31.07.2011 at 19:19:05

After many years of deliberation and negotiation I now own a car some of you may have seen before, in my Norwich Union Classic Car Run thread (http://www.kelsey-forums.co.uk/cgi-bin/jwm/YaBB.pl?num=1222544501/5#5)
Anyway thanks to my friend Richard, the car now belongs to me, as is my way I have some plans, the picture shows the car on 16" lattice alloys (it came with the Jaguarsport TWR coke bottle wheels).
Next job is to remove the black trim and replace with chrome, and I have a black interior for the car. The hood needed some stitching for the wires, which my wife "volunteered" for so that is now sorted.

Cheers
Mark

P.S.It left the factory as a Coupe and has at some point been converted to a "Cabriolet". I have done a fair bit of research but have not discovered who did the conversion, so if anybody has any ideas, please let me know.

Cheers

That looks very much like the company in Lancashire (near Blackpool I think) that converted XJ-Ss and Series 3 XJs in the early 1990s.

Can't remember the name of the company...sorry.

Thanks PreHE,

That could be Cabriolets International they were based in Blackpool. I don't think I have seen one of their cars (there is a picture in you & Your XJS of an unidentified car which I thought might be one of theirs, if so the hood has side windows which mine does not) so not sure if it could be theirs. When Wyn Thomas bought it in the early 90's the vendor said it was a Banham car, clearly it is not and he realised that so there was a lot of negotiation about the price.
A clue might be the car has mostly been in resident in the Kent area in particular Westerham.
Whoever converted it seems to have done a good job, however I plan to add all the available strengthening parts in addition to whatever was done on conversion. The boot strengthener is fitted, I have the rear under diff ladder strengthener and then I plan to add the Harvey Bailey front strengthener from their handling pack.

Cheers

So this weekend I have been removing a black interior from a V12 and then fitting it to my "cabriolet", hard work but fun.
Just got to do the footwell trims by the doors (forgot to get one trim out so need to go back to get it sometime next week)and cut the radio surround to suit a modern radio (or snag one off Ebay).

I also fitted the stalks and the ignition and headlight switch surrounds as they looked nicer than my plain black ones.

Next job to to replace some of the chrome trim around the front screen as mine has some scratches from wen I took the black paint off to reveal the original chrome.

Cheers
