Not done it myself but a competent mechanic I know (who had never done a V8 Jag before) took 2 days. He had a 2 post lift and transmission jacks. He never mentioned any specific problems other than getting exhaust apart, just said it was tedious with a lot of bits to loosen / undo. I don't know if he removed exhaust to lower back of engine or if leaving it in place prevented gearbox or propshaft being removed.
Cheers

I also know a mechanic who did one a week or so ago, it was a fiddly job but nothing special was needed.

The problem came when the car wouldn't work once it was all back together, turns out the gearbox wasn't seated properly and had to be undone again and jiggled to get it all connected up. I recall that he removed the exhaust to get access.

Cheers

Check the floors are dry(under the sound deadening) in your 94 xj40s and have a very very close look at the engine bulkheadfor any sighns of rot.!
