Radio Static
18.11.2011 at 16:45:39

Hi

Got a 2004 XK8 with the pre-roll out upgrades. Today whilst driving home, my stereo just went full of static and I can't get any sound whatsoever from it, from either the radio or CD.

I've pulled the fuse out for a few minutes to see if that solved it but it would seem that there is an earthing problem somewhere.

Are there any checks I can do without having to have it coupled up to a diagnostics computer

Cheers

John

Was there anthing you were doing / switching at the time the static appeared?
I have no experience on XK8s but this can happen due to lack of earth on Teeves brakes on Xj40s and on Ford Transit brakes. It seems completely random from one vehicle to the (apparently identical) next.
Check you ariel connections have not come loose and that the outer braid of the co axial ariel cable is earthed. Otherwise its a case of going round everything with probes / crockodile clips.
Cheers
