I have owned for the last 10 years a jaguar xj8 2000 w that has 55000 miles on the clock. Last week as i was about to drive off the gearbox would not change out of 2nd gear not even on the manual side. A gearbox fault warning came on and since then it will not change up.  i had it looked at and 3 codes were displayed:

PO711 fluid temp sensor
P1722 stall speed
P1797 : CAN network to gearbox

Could someone please help me and explain the codes and tell me where i could get these problems rectified and what kind of costs this could incurr. I live in Birmingham/England and i would be extremely grateful if someone local could look at it for me. Thank You.

What did the concern that 'looked at' it advise you? If they have a code reader capable of accessing these codes then they must have offered you an opinion?

If you've owned the car for ten years, I must presume that you have a trusted garage that maintains it for you? What have they said?
