Hi to all ,
nobody left any helpfull advice so can only presume none of you have tackled this job , so I will leave some instead .

No special tools needed and it's just a straight forward job of undoing nuts and bolts to get the shafts out and the UJ's just knock out as normal .

One last tip , try to do this job on a warm day if working outside , -2 took all the fun out of it  Shocked

Hi Al...Did it cure the wobble ?? On my X300 I have a 'shudder' that comes from the n/s/rear over rough roads, more noticable if you are pressing on a bit Wink I've had a good look for cause and the car has gone through 3 MOT's with not even an advisory, I wonder if it could be the UJ's.

All the best Brian

Brian - I would suspect worn A frame bushes - soft but not slack enogh to fail MOT. Could also be the bushes in the diagonal tie rods - these soften and MOT testers hardly bother looking at them.
Alan - what was the torque on the driveshaft to hub nuts? - these are often too tight for 1/2 drive kit.
Cheers

Hi Roly – Mine looks something to your but with the added bonus of outboard brakes. Trouble is I have a bit of an issues with a noise which I cannot for the life of me pin down. One minute I reckon it’s a wheel bearing the next a pinion or diff issue. I’m hoping to get it on a lift this weekend to have a look.

How difficult/easy is it to drop the rear cradle? I’m assuming the worst in it being the diff!

Happy days

Hello to all you impatient people , seasons greetings (yes I know it's late)

Anyway , to answer the question did it stop the wobble , yes to a point , very much improved , however it has not cured it totally , I will be having new tyres and the 4 wheel tracking done next . Possibly the prop-shaft UJs might need replacing next if no luck .

Torque setting for the hub-nut , this was done by an educated guess , these can be found in the educated guess section of the manual you don't have  Grin

Holidays NO Work Yes .

All the best

Nice to hear from you again Al,  replaced the A frame bushes on my car yesterday, cured the shudder Smiley Smiley the old bushes looked and felt OK but must have gone soft, I suppose after 15 yrs and 108,000 miles not too bad, easy job to do once I had made an extractor/install tool. Might even get around to fitting the front shocker poly bushes I bought 18 months ago.

Hi Brian , this tool that you have made for the bushes can we see a photo please , and can it be used without the need to remove the A-Frame ? .

I tried to replace A frame bushes without removing frame from car - got old bush out Ok by hacking them to bits / chisel / hacksaw.
When I tried to push new bush in from underside it got about 2/3rds way in then the car started to lift so I had to take frame off. Pushed in easily in 10 tonne press.

Driveshaft nut - manual says about 300 ft/lbs (from memory) I did not have 3/4 drive socket handy and had to weld a 1/2 inch drive to the end of a bit of 1 inch NB pipe.
Cheers
