S-Type lock out
27.01.2012 at 12:31:16
For the first time ever got locked out of my car the other day, and cannot understand what went wrong. Was dropping my partner off at a friends house, switched off the engine but left the key in the ignition, pressed the boot release and got out of the car shutting the door. Then took some things out of the boot and closed the boot. What a surprise when I found I was locked out. Fortunately the friend drove me home to collect the spare key, only 10 mins away. Then found the remote on the spare would not open the car and had to put the key in the door lock, which worked ok but expected the alarm to go off, but it didn't.
Don't know if there was a glitch but have tried to replicate the situation without success. Lesson though is never leave the key in the ignition.
Cheers, Roy

.
Hi Roly and "SNAP".
One day last year I was on my drive washing my car and I left the keys in the ignition.
Opened the boot lid to wash out the rain channels and then slammed the boot lid down a little to hard and the car locked on its own.
So, my car and house keys were locked in the car.
Fortunately my Mum was home and she opened the house front door to let me in and get to the safe and then use the spare keys to open the car.
Imagine if I had been miles from home
and the problems that would have caused me
.
Now I don't leave the keys in the car and I'm more careful closing the boot lid.
Supertrev.

Thanks Supertrev for your reply. Just been reading in the Feb JEC mag about Mike Kennedy who also had a lock out, but with the engine running and away from home. He elected to smash the drivers side window to gain access as he was worried about the engine overheating. He did say he accidendally tripped the passenger door lock rocker whilst loading the car and went on to exlpain how to replace the glass.
Cheers, Roy

Got locked out of the XJS once but fortunately had an RAC man there as he was jump starting it and so had all the necessary kit there available for an unplanned breakdown

Yes - poor old Mike eh? Honestly, the lengths that some people go to to get something published! I'd have chosen a cheaper window or rung up the JEC technical help no.
