Alternator removal
27.01.2012 at 15:51:40

Hi all,

I`m having an absolute nightmare with this flippin alternator..

I`ve been on it for a good 5 hours now & only just managed to undo everything, mainly thanks to the top alternator mounting bolt welding itself to the ally mounting... Once I got the bolt out, there was 1 winding of ripped off aluminium thread right in the middle of the steel bolts thread, which explains why it seemed to be getting tighter the more I undid it... but at least it didnt strip the whole thread...

At the moment I have tendinitis affecting my right arm, severely restricting movement, plus I managed to crush my left hands index finger, which is now throbbing hard, & now my backs starting to go!

That single bolt took a good 2 & 1/2 hours to remove & once again I`m running out of light.

Now I`ve got the alternator unbolted, I`ve found it doesnt seem to fit out of any of the gaps, so I`m wondering, whats the procedure here? Removal of rads? Removal of suspension links?

I`m getting too old for this lark!

Any help welcomed   Sad

Sorry can't help with which way to get alternator out.
Regarding bolts stuck in Alloy / aluminium a good trick if they feel seized and dont start to undo easily is hit the head sharply with a copper mallet several times and tighten them 30 to70 degress before undoing them.
Its to do with directional galling that happens on aluminium threads.
Cheers
