XJ8 Juicy?
28.01.2012 at 11:50:40
Hello,
I've sadly had a minor accident in my XJ40 and it's practically a write off.
So it's proabbly time for a new Jag!
I love the look of most XJ8's I've seen...I just wondered how these do for petrol consumption in comparison with my old XJ40?
I was getting around 20 to the gallon on that!
Hope someone can help....
Cheers

I contantly leave the computer alone so that it gives my average fuel consumption since I've owned it. I don't reset it to see what I'm getting 'on a run,' etc.
So my average is 20.1 mpg. And I think that seems to be fairly representative.

I've found my XJ8 to give better fuel economy and performance than my XJ40 did as well as cheaper running costs (mind you I had an early one with the self levelling struts
)
If you can be prepared to sit at 60 on a long journey I've got 35 mpg out of the XJ8

2001 XJ8 at the moment - previously owned 1991 XJS Convertible, 1987 Series 3, 1986 XJ40, 1985 Series 3
Wouldn't say no to owning a few more

But that's a pointless observation, in my opinion.
What do you get on average, month after month?
Certainly not 35mpg.

If you sit at 60 MPG on a motorway you can get about 30 MPG out of a V12. That takes some patience though but can save massive amounts of fuel and therefore cost
XJS that is

All very interesting...
Hopefully I'm correct in saying then that if I buy an XJ8 things wont get too bad as regards petrol.....
At least not worse than I was used to with my old trusty XJ40!

It all depends how hard you drive. I've got a 2001 3.2 V8 Executive which is in daily use. That is return about 25mpg on average. On motorway work, it can reach about 30ish mpg. Only thing I have to watch out for is that the tank seems larger than other XJ8's I've had (somehow), but it does give me a range of 350 miles +
If it's any consolation, also got a 2004 4.2 XK8 and that averages about 26 mpg too.
I also find that keeping the fuel injectors clean too also helps

I find checking fuel consumption a depressing subject, fill the thing up and when its 1/4 full, fill it up again, enjoy the driving experience, after all
nobody buys a Jaguar V8 for the fuel economy. I used to own a V12 XJS conv 17 mpg on a good day, a lot less if enjoyed, but hey ho what price the grin factor
If you fancy one, have it.
All the best Brian

A lot better fuel economy than a Jensen Interceptor is all you need to know .
The XJ8 I find to be very good on fuel consumption , it will surprise you (hopefully)

No one buys an old Jag with Fuel economy in mind, do they?
Having said that my old X Type 2.5 V6 averaged about 30 which on the scale of things not much different to my Wife’s Toyota Yaris (34)!
