Xj6 series 1/2/3 rear end compatability?
18.02.2012 at 17:43:04
Hello, can someone please tell me if I can fit a series 3 rear end to a series 1 car? My recently aquired series 1 needs the rear calipers rebuilding and the workshop manual talks of removing the complete cage and suspension to get access.
I have been offered a complete series 3 rear end and thought of renovating this, then just swopping them over. I have removed and rebuilt rear calipers in situ before on a series 3 car and although its a job I don't relish doing again soon, I know it can be done. Is it possible to do the job on a series 1? Many thanks, Philippe

The easiest solution is simply send your series 1 calipers off to be reconditioned. Here in the UK, I paid about £90 for the pair. That way, you get no nasty surprises and the parts WILL fit................

Hi Philippe,
The units will swap straight over. The only difference will be the threads on the brake flex hose. Early cars are imperial, later ones are metric.
I would agree with Clive and see about getting reconditioned brake callipers. In the UK, these are around £70 exchange.
Kind regards,
Keith
