Hello, can someone please tell me if I can fit a series 3 rear end to a series 1 car? My recently aquired series 1 needs the rear calipers rebuilding and the workshop manual talks of removing the complete cage and suspension to get access.
I have been offered a complete series 3 rear end and thought of renovating this, then just swopping them over. I have removed and rebuilt rear calipers in situ before on a series 3 car and although its a job I don't relish doing again soon, I know it can be done. Is it possible to do the job on a series 1? Hi Philippe,
The units will swap straight over. The only difference will be the threads on the brake flex hose. Early cars are imperial, later ones are metric.
I would agree with Clive and see about getting reconditioned brake callipers. In the UK, these are around £70 exchange.
