so much for wd40 Angry

Well, WD40 is NOT a suitable lubricant - it is a 'water dispersal' spray (that's why it is labled 'WD'). Use silicone grease.

Anyway, you've bu**ered it now, so if your car is a '90 model XJ40 with a VIN prior to 629285, JDHT, according to their parts catalogue, will sell you a replacement fuel filler flap hinge part number BDC6860 for eleven quid plus VAT and P&P.
