New customer last week with an XJ40 4ltr Majestic a couple of questions, how many Majestic were made and what years, I ask the year question because the customer, who has had the vehicle a couple of years said it was a '96
As far as i know the XJ40 ended in 92/93, its a battery in boot model, so my guess is 92ish, what is it worth ? 70,000 on the clock good condition, very nice interior, but with petrol prices still on the way up, would anyone want one? Nice car but like a lot of Jags not a daily driver if you have to do a few miles to work

Check the VIN
XJ40 production ended in 1994. The cars you so quaintly call 'battery-in-the-boot' XJ40s were the '93/'94 model year cars with a VIN range from 667829 to 708757. After that they were X300s.
AFAIK, all of the '93 / '94 model Majestics were LWB cars and had a letter 'M' in the 7th character of the seventeen-character VIN.
I think somebody on here or one of the other forums has a register of Majestics produced.

would be interested in more details on this car, via a pm of course, just to see if it is known to me as a survivor or a new one to me, I am aware of at least 4 or 5 N reg XJ40 Majestics in the UK, and, N reg XJ40 is not that uncommon, I have an N reg August 1995 reg car, V12 SWB, they are usually but not always ex Jaguar Cars as the first owner and carry a Coventry reg as their birth reg number, KV, HP, DU, RW, AC, WD, NX and VC are the most common

Rob,
I think that illustrates a general problem - people will persist in using the date of first (usually UK) registration as the 'year' of the car when, specification-wise, it is totally irrelevant - even to the extent of whether the car is an XJ40 or an X300.
If only they would stick to MODEL YEAR which is clearly defined by the VIN, then there would be no confusion.
Who the hell is concerned if the car is 'N', 'M' or any other registration year? The MY / VIN is what matters when identifying the build standard of the car.

This car has a private plate, so no clue there, I will ask the owner for the vin and let you know by PM. As covkid says it the model year/year of manufacture that matters, not when the vehicle was first registered. When I was an apprentice at a Vauxhall main dealer we sold a couple of PC Cresta Deluxe to a large hotel that had been in stock for a couple of years after Vauxhall had ceased production, so their reg would have been way off year of manufacture.
All the best Brian

Hi, there !!
My name is François, living in South of France, very proud owner of 2 Daimler Majestic, Kingfisher Blue and Black, , 1x1993, 1x 1994 !
I should like to be in touch with Rob Jenners ! It would be fine whether he could be so kind and contact me for further discussions about "our" lovely cars !!
And may be, he would accept I send him "Best Regards" from Sébastien Canevet, who also owns a Majestic ! So far as I know, both have met in Scotland a couple of years ago !
We have already created the "FMOC", which means "French Majestic Owner Club" ! We have a huge quantity of Members, sorry !, two Members, Sébastien and me ! and with 3 "Majestic" 4.0L (RHD), we both own 20 % of this marvellous cars which have been sold in the UK !
We'll try to increase this, but it's quite difficult !!
Best Regards to all the Members !!
