Seatbelt kits
11.04.2012 at 20:58:00

Whilst we're on the subject of minor upgrades, has anyone replaced the seatbelts in their Mkx or 420g? I have the standard static diagonals in the front and nothing at all in the rear - although I have anchor points in the wheel arches I have nothing inboard in the back. I wouldn't mind inertia reels in the front (nothing to do with getting the old belts round my girth you understand) and I gather from those with children that some form of protection in the rear would be welcomed - has anybody had a go? As with the headlights it seems to be an area that varies hugely in price, with no supplier being able to tell me whether or not their solution is a straight swap or not, so once again I throw myself on the mercy of my betters within the forum...

Thanks SV8Predator! Got a quote from for the front belts but they weren't sure what was right for the back - anyone tried it before?

doubt there is a spot for a centre belt. Wink
i was told by my restorer that "there no place for seatbelts on a mk10".

but we all know different...

jags then were well ahead of their time Smiley

Hi,

I fitted 3 point inertia reel belt to the front by recessing the B/C post, supplied to my requirements from 'quickfit'.

For the rear I welded in strengthening plates and fitted 3 point reel belts to the top of the wheel arches in the boot then cut slots in the rear parcel shelf with wood surrounds for neatness, and a lap belt in the centre.

This is in a MkII so you have more room I would have thought?

Hi Roly - I don't think there was a central belt spot either, but I was confused to find factory fit anchor points on the rear wheel arches but nowhere else... maybe you're just meant to clip your trousers to them...

And Martec, you are of course right - no shortage of space in a 420G!

I think I'll start with the inertia reels in the front, if I can get a straight answer from any one supplier regarding straight swap / fabricate new mounts. After all, I don't sit in the back, and neither has anyone else for 4 years, so it's not at the top of the list yet!
