Door cards and speakers
11.04.2012 at 23:01:27
Hi all
Having a total nightmare with halfrauds Their no job too complex logo on their website appears not to apply to them fitting front speakers to the xjs which they literally told me was too complex!
How easy is it to get the cards out for the front speakers?
Thanks

It's quite easy, but I would not trust Halfrauds to do it.
I bought a stereo with free fitting some years back and fair play to them the shop guys could not fit it (too complex) so they sorted out for some other company to come to my house and do the install ( including boot mounted CD changer)
If you have a workshop manual you can see that there are only 3 screws to undo (2 on the chrome trim panel and one under the trim piece at the front of the armrest. After that free off the clips all around the edge and lift the card up to free it. Be careful of the wires to the mirrir switch (drivers die) and puddle lights.
Having said all that it only applies to the pre facelift cars and I cannot see if yours is early or facelift
Cheers
Mark

Hi mark
Yeah its facelift 1991
They are a nightmare the have started talking about the mobile fitting option so may have to go down that route this is just for the speakers
They seem to feel they can fit the new head unit but i am worried now in case they mess it up

Hi Matt.
Their main concern with mine was running the cable to the rear for the CD changer so you may be OK with the head unit.
Perhaps take a picture of the old unit in place before they work on it just in case things do not go well.
Cheers

There already is a cable in place for the head unit which terminates in the left hand recess in the boot. At worst you could follow this route. Might still be compatible, worth checking. Door cards similar principal to pre-facelift only you don’t have the door mirror controls to worry about. When replacing you must ensure the two metal lugs behind the arm rest locate properly.
Happy days
Nick

Takinf the door cards off is not particularily difficult. Pull the chrome cover off the handle, Put some tape over the handle to protect the leather. Undo the nut under there with a spanner. Remove the chrome plte which contacts the door light switch.
Undo the two screws under the door pocket.
Prise the door card clips loose at the sides and bottom, there are tools to make this easier.
Lift the door card off upwards manouvering over the door handle and seat controls, until you can pull the wires off the door light.
There are two big clips/overhangs in the middle of the door and two smaller ones at the top which need to be engaged when refitting the panel, otherwise the door panel comes loose or interferes with the closing/opening. If the plastic clips are broken or missing you can buy them .....from Halfrauds!
See my post about speaker sizes.
