Does anyone know what the difference is in Pirelli P Zero's tyres when they have MO stamped on the side. I know MO is Mercedes Original and listening to Pirelli they will have you believe that these tyres are a softer compound than standand P Zero. Looking at a lot of info on the web, a lot seem to think they are both the same tyre and it's a marketing ploy by Merc and Pirelli.

Does anyone have any firm knowledge either way?

Don't know the MO answer, but if they are anything like the Pirelli P6000(J) specifically for Jaguar, there is a difference between the (J)s and the standard P6000s in the construction - Steel and Nylon plies for example - and you can read the construction type on the side-wall of each tyre.

I've read about the J tyres and Porsche also do the same but looking at a couple of Merc forums, plenty of people say the MO type is just the same tyre as standard.

What's happened is, I've bought a part worn off ebay which was advertised as a Pirelli P Zero Rosso but its got the MO stamp on it, when I thought it was just the standard P Zero Rosso. Do I fit it or complain and try and get a refund?

They advertised the tyre as a Pirelli P Zero Rosso, when it is actually a Pirelli P Zero Rosso MO and according to Pirelli the two should not be mixed. If I fit it, I'll have 3 standard P Zero's and one MO which may or may not have a different tread compound which is what I'm trying to find out.

So my complaint is obviously that they sold me a tyre that has been misdescribed.

Think you will find MO stands for Mercedes Only mate (check on google) Wink

remember i got BMW tyres for my gloop Shocked

they are all round..... a tyres a tyre.

years ago in a different life i used to put exe aircraft tyres on tractor trailers.......

the trailers stayed on the ground and made no attempt to take off. Cheesy

No mate, it's Mercedes Original, here it is on the Merc website.

Roly I paid £29 delivered then it'll be £12 fitting so not really cheap and I don't want to take any chances. I emailed Pirelli direct and this is their reply.

The difference between the two tyres is that the MO fitment has been made with specific compounds for that particular Mercedes vehicle.

We wouldn't advise mixing the fitments as we have not tried and tested them and you may experience some handling difficulties - see attached information. It is however your discretion whether you choose to mix the tyre fitments.

So, I'm still in the dark about what to do.

Having mixed quite a range of tyres, vans and minubuses Ihave never known anything worse than enhanced tramlining, or vague feeling. I have never had anything dangerous happen under hard cornering or emergency breaking.
I have also been on motorcycles with mixed tyres and it is downright dangerous, unpredicable cornering, speed wobbles, front wheel oscillation etc.

Hmmm, my plans for driving the car on two wheels could be scuppered then, I always find it handy when manouvering in tight spaces Grin
