XJ-S Replacemet Batteries that fit!!
22.04.2012 at 15:02:10

I wrote on here a few years ago about my problems finding a battery to fit in the tray on my XJS.  Most batteries today are either monsters - twice the size of the original or have large plastic fittings that make them just a few cms to large.

Well as bad luck would have it my battery decided the distinct lack of use was enough for it and died....start hunting for a new battery...AND I FOUND ONE.

The only one I can find is YUASA...perfect fit although the terminals are the wrong way around - but I can live with that.

Here's a website if ever you need it.
http://www.yuasaeurope.com/en-gb/portal/

Regards
David

i have a 94 v12 and have a VARTA battery which is the same as bosch as far as i know. This came with a 4 year warranty and fits perfect but was not cheap but with batteries i think you get what you pay for . I searched ebay when i ordered mine and think it was delivered the next day. my spec was a 74Ah battery which was the largest i can fit. I also use a C-TEK trikle charger to keep it charged or pull the earth cable if not used for some time.

Thanks..all useful to know.

Bryan what is the model number of the Bosch?

Will invest in a battery conditioner...makes sense in the long run.

Hi David  its HSB075 i  had  trouble with my Lucas wet type battery going flat so i decided  to invest in a maintance free type  a Bocsh HS075  its ok apart from it needs  packing under  in the tray to get the correct hight  this i did  with  a piece of a cieling tile
however i kept my  Lucas battery as i wasent convinced it was cuput  i invested in a C-Teck 3600
conditioner its a small solid state devise and its magic no more flat  batteries  i leave it connected all through the winter and  it keeps the battery  fully charged The good news i hooked my  Lucas battery up to it for 48 hours and now thats back on the car  perfect and the Bocsh is my spare  I like the Lucas as its like the original  and if the concours judge sees  a Bocsh i lose points But its most important to keep the conditioner on when the car is not in use  just clip it to the batt and forget it you will be glad you did just like me as i never have a flat battery anymore  Hope this helps regards Bryan

I'm a bit confused by the vented battery requirement as the battery is in the boot. Do you need a vented battery and attach a tube out of the car (as originally designed) or are sealed batteries, such as the Bosch, OK?

Hi there absolutly sealed batteries are fine  they never made them when these cars were made its modern technoligy and so no gases  can escape so no need to worry about venting Regards Bryan
